Search and rescue training takes place at Disaster City
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2 gathered to get more training in case disaster strikes.
The mission was an urban search and rescue in a contaminated environment.
“We practice the same way we would be going out the door,” said Director for Texas A&M Task Force 1 Jeff Saunders.
Participants had to rescue citizens from under a pile of rubble.
“We never know when disaster is going to happen. We don’t ever want a disaster to happen but we know when it does, and it will, we want to be prepared,” said Program Manager Chuck Jones.
Rescued citizens participating in the training were volunteers.
First responders say when the next disaster comes, they will be ready to answer the call.
“People are expecting us to come in and do our job and do it at a high level. And in order for us to do that we have to continually sharpen our skills,” said Jones.
Around 250 Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2 members were on-site during the training.
